Addictions.

Everyone has one. Doesn’t matter where you live or who you are. Rich or poor, religious or not, something somewhere is your all-consuming passion. You think because you don’t drink, smoke or do drugs your exempt from addiction?Your not. Nobody is. Think of some addictions: drugs, tobacco, alcohol, food, sex, caffine, and myspace quickly come to mind. However it continues, ask any child rasied by perfectionist parents, they know how it feels to crave approval and praise for a job well done. The overly dedicated employee who just HAS to finish one last paper. A woman embittered by divorce, holding feelings of hatred tight against her heart. All these people sip from the same sickeningly sweet cup, but refuse to admit it. The word addict will never cross their lips, but it defines their lives.

What rules you? You know what it is, the thing that crosses your mind often, distracting you from the task at hand. Don’t be ashamed, accept it, even embrace it, if it’s one you want. What? Want an addiction? Sounds weird right? It’s not.

I believe that you can choose your addiction. I know how horribly callous that sounds to someone who is try to stop smoking or hardcore drug use, I also know there are always exceptions. Just listen before you stone me please! I think that our brains kind of need to have some sort of addiction. In order to get rid of one, you cannot simply stop your getting your fix, you must replace it with a new one. Much consideration is required however. Think about the consequences accompanying your new habit. Trading in your smoke breaks for cupcake breaks may seem like genius at first, but before long you’ll be buying a brand new wardrobe to accommodate your expanding girth. Not fun.

I know how hopeless you can feel when facing an addiction. It’s ominous, you worry about it, how to avoid that drink, or keep from telling that lie. Eyes watch you all the time, or so it feels,” is she gonna eat that? She said she was through with junk food!” The little voice in your head mocks, “Neener-neener-nee-ner! You can’t do it! Your gonna fail!” Obnoxiously, that little voice is right alot of the time, so you get discouraged. Maybe even stop trying. Well don’t. Please don’t. Why? You deserve better. Better than to be chained to that website or razorblade. I don’t care who you are. You deserve better! I don’t care if you were abused or the abuser, in the right or in the wrong, you deserve a life free from addictions ties. Why? Simple.

You are a child of God. Shoulda known that was coming right?

This is NOT one of those glory-be-smack-ya-on the-head-and-be-cured God things though. No way. A good majority of T.V. Christianity is B.S., and we both know it. I don’t believe that Christians live lives free from pain and wear big smiles all the time, nor do I believe that they should quote Scripture unceasingly and cover themselves from head to toe( for modestys’ sake of course). I can tell you for a fact that Christians hurt, bleed, cuss, and lust, and anybody who tells you otherwise can shove it. Their lying.

Christians have problems, Christians can be and often are, addicts. There’s just one big difference. Jesus. He came, was born lived and died for us, so we can ask forgiveness for our failures and for our addictions. The thing is Jesus doesn’t just want to forgive us, He wants to fix us. He just needs to be asked is all. Let Him pick up what you can’t carry.

It’s embarrassing isn’t it though? To keep coming back time and time again, asking forgiveness for the same sin? Please keep coming back! Jesus knows your heart! He knows when you are trying so hard and have a slip up! On the other hand He knows when you don’t even try to resist. You do your part and let Him do His! He loves you so much. So so so so much. So try! And if you fail, call on Him and try again! And again and again until you beat your vice. <3
